Engagement Invitation
Engagement Invitations: Warm, Stylish and Practical
In Turkey, the engagement ceremony (nişan) is the first formal gathering of the two families and a celebration of the decision to marry. The invitation is the first step in sharing that moment. With an e-invitation, the date, time, venue, map and RSVPs are collected behind one link. An engagement is more intimate than a wedding, and the invitation should reflect that.

The engagement ceremony and its invitation
An engagement usually takes place months, sometimes a year, before the wedding and formally brings the two families together. The invitation is the first news guests receive about it and helps them prepare.
Where a wedding invitation is formal, an engagement invitation should feel warm and personal: short texts, soft colours and nothing too showy.
An e-invitation suits engagements well because details between the engagement and the wedding can change, and a digital invitation is quick and easy to update.
What an engagement invitation should include
- The couple's names
- The families' names, if you wish
- Date, time and venue
- Directions on a map
- A deadline for RSVPs
- A dress code note if needed (outdoor venue, smart casual and so on)
A line about the couple's story, such as "we met two years ago and have decided to marry", makes the invitation more personal.
Colour and style
An engagement is a calmer celebration before the wedding, and the colours should reflect that:
- Pastel tones (light blue, sage, blush) are popular
- Gold details add glamour; silver looks more understated
- If you use a photo, natural-light, relaxed portraits work best
- Choose an elegant but approachable heading font and an easy-to-read body font
UQR Event offers three engagement invitation templates, each with its own colour and mood.
Managing RSVPs for an engagement
Attendance at an engagement is usually more predictable than at a wedding, as most invited guests come. Collecting RSVPs is still essential for seating and catering.
RSVPs are listed in your panel. Ask guests in the invitation to mention anything you should know in advance, such as dietary needs or whether children are coming.
Photo sharing at the engagement
An engagement is full of intimate moments. A QR code on the tables lets guests capture and share them.
The invitation link and the photo-sharing page belong to the same event, so all the engagement photos end up in a single gallery.
See our photo sharing guide for the details.
Adding a printed card
Some families prefer to hand out printed engagement invitations. In that case, place a QR code on the card to bring both together.
Printed cards go to older relatives and the wider circle, while the digital invitation reaches everyone else instantly.
Our QR code invitation guide covers QR placement, size and printing tips.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to prepare an engagement invitation?
Once your details are ready, choosing and filling in a template takes a few hours. Allow a day or two including checks and corrections.
Is RSVP necessary for an engagement?
It isn't required, but it is recommended: it gives you the numbers you need for seating and catering.
When should I send the engagement invitation?
Two to three weeks before the engagement is appropriate. Because it is digital, you can also send it later if needed.
Can our engagement invitation match our wedding invitation?
Yes. Many couples design the engagement invitation as a preview of the wedding, carrying the same colours and design elements through.
